Bristly stems and leaves give Hairy Sunflower its name. Given it's shorter stature when it comes to wildflowers, this would make an excellent addition to a landscape where other native plants may not be feasible.
This perennial loves full sun and most soil types. Bright yellow flowers begin blooming in late July and last through September.
How To Plant Hairy Sunflower Seeds
Direct sow seeds into prepared soil in late fall once soil temps are below 50 degrees (usually mid to late November). Can also be planted in winter during natural freeze / thaw cycles and in early spring. Plant shallow, no deeper than 1/8 to 1/4 inch deep and lightly rake to work seed in. Plant in full sun. Can take 3 growing seasons to fully establish.
