Broom Sedge is not a sedge at all, but a member of the grass family. "Broom" comes from the fact that the culms were used to make brooms in some of the southern states.
Reaching heights of 3 to 6 feet, Broom Sedge blooms later in the season and prefers partial shade.
Multiple uses for wildlife include cover, nesting material and seed food for birds. Also provides structure and nesting material for native bees.
