A sedge with stems to 3 to 6 feet with broad grass like leaves. Short-lived. Bulrush forms a buffer against wind and wave action, thus permitting other aquatic plants to grow in an otherwise unfavorable environment.
Provides important food and cover for waterfowl, songbirds, shorebirds and muskrats.
It grows in moist to wet areas in full sun.
Generally found east of the Rocky mountains to the east coast of the United States and in eastern Canada.
