Too Wet to Mow Mix

Those little corners of your yard where the mower gets stuck will benefit from our Too Wet to Mow Seed Packet. Make sure the area gets at least 4 hours of sunlight a day and use our cardboard/mulch method to create a clean seedbed for species that will reach heights of 3 to 4 feet (some species can get as tall as 5 feet).

Some things to remember:

  • Native plant communities can take up to three growing seasons to fully establish. The Partridge Pea and Lemon Mint in this mix are annual wildflowers that will help provide first year color.
  • Make sure you don't seed this mix into standing water. These species need good seed to soil contact.
  • Because the area is wetter, soil temperatures may remain cooler throughout the growing season. This may mean slower establishment.

Contains the following species:

Grasses and Grasslike:

Elymus virginicus - Virginia Wild Rye

Carex crinita - Fringed Sedge

Panicum (Dichanthelium) clandestinum - Deer-tongue Grass

Leersia oryzoides - Rice Cut Grass

Carex vulpinoidea - Brown Fox Sedge

Elymus riparius - Riverbank Wild Rye

Agrostis perennans - Autumn Bentgrass

Scirpus atrovirens - Dark Green Bulrush

Scirpus cyperinus - Woolgrass

Wildflowers:

Chamaecrista fasciculata - Partridge Pea

Monarda citriodora - Lemon Mint

Echinacea purpurea - Purple Coneflower

Rudbeckia hirta - Black-eyed Susan

Monarda fistulosa - Wild Bergamot

Liatris spicata - Dense Blazingstar

Asclepias syriaca - Common Milkweed

Solidago rigida - Stiff Goldenrod

Lobelia cardinalis - Cardinal Flower

Lobelia siphilitica - Great Lobelia

The native perennials in your mix do require some patience to establish, but for instant gratification consider adding any of these quick establishing annuals. They're perfect pollinator plants, too!
