Side-oats Grama is named for the way the flowers' seeds hang on one side of the culm or stem.
A short grass by prairie standards, it generally reaches heights of 1 to 3 feet.
Preference is for dry soils, but can handle some seasonal moisture.
A great species to plant with Little Bluestem. Provides good habitat for game birds and other animals, often used by grazers.

How To Plant Side-oats Grama Seeds:
Direct sow seeds into prepared soil in late fall once soil temps are below 50 degrees (usually mid to late November). Can also be planted in winter during natural freeze/thaw cycles and early spring. Plant shallow, no deeper than 1/8 to 1/4 inch deep and lightly rake to work seed in. Plant in full sun to partial shade. Can take 3 growing seasons to fully establish.
