Rice Cut Grass is a native perennial grass found throughout the United States and Canada.

It typically blooms and flowers in late summer. It is a food and habitat resource for wetland waterfowl, mammals, amphibian and fish. It is the host plant for the Least Skipper butterfly.

The rhizomatous nature of its roots system make it useful in sediment and erosion control. The flower head is open and drooping.

It grows to 3 to 6 feet.

How To Plant Rice Cut Grass Seeds:

Direct sow seeds into prepared soil in late fall once soil temps are below 50 degrees (usually mid to late November). Can also be planted in winter during natural freeze/thaw cycles and early spring. Plant shallow, no deeper than 1/8 to 1/4 inch deep and lightly rake to work seed in. Plant in full sun to partial shade. Can take 3 growing seasons to fully establish.
