This broad leaved grass reaches heights anywhere from 2 to 4 feet and prefers partial sunlight and moist, sandy soil. The seed heads are important food source for many birds and small mammals.
This is a great species to plant against fences or anywhere you desire privacy. It grows in clumps and forms dense colonies.
How To Plant Deer-Tongue Grass Seed:
Direct sow seeds into prepared soil in late fall once soil temps are below 50 degrees (usually mid to late November). Can also be planted in winter during natural freeze/thaw cycles and early spring. Plant shallow, no deeper than 1/8 to 1/4 inch deep and lightly rake to work seed in. Plant in full sun. Can take 3 growing seasons to fully establish.
