Lanceleaf Coreopsis (Coreopsis lanceolata) is a cheery, yellow perennial native wildflower that is easy to grow from seed. Showy blooms are produced in early summer once established. Grows well in both prairie and garden bed settings, but it can form dense colonies.
Even though it is a fairly short lived perennial, it re-seeds freely and you are likely to see it again. It's considered deer resistant and is typically on the shorter side of native wildflowers.
Pollinators, especially butterflies, are drawn to this plant.
How To Plant Lanceleaf Coreopsis Seeds:
Direct sow seeds into prepared soil in late fall once soil temps are below 50 degrees (usually mid to late November). Can also be planted in winter during natural freeze/thaw cycles and early spring. Plant shallow, no deeper than 1/8 - 1/4 inch deep and lightly rake to work seed in. Plant in full sun to partial shade. Can take 3 growing seasons to fully establish.
