This native perennial sedge forms a large tufts of leaves and flowering culms reaching up to 2 1/2 feet tall.
Plant is a bright green and really adds a vibrancy to moist area plantings.
Very good in rain garden situations. The seed heads (inflorescence) are attractive and showy.
This plant prefers full sun to part shade, in wet mucky to sandy soil. Fibrous roots help hold soil in place.
How To Plant Bristly Sedge Seeds:
Direct sow seeds into prepared soil in late fall once soil temps are below 50 degrees (usually mid to late November). Can also be planted in winter during natural freeze/thaw cycles and in early spring. Plant shallow, no deeper than 1/8 to 1/4 inch deep and lightly rake to work seed in. Plant in full sun to partial shade. Can take 3 growing seasons to fully establish.
