Soft-stemmed Bulrush has a very weak stem thus giving it its name. It reaches heights anywhere from 3 to 6 feet and prefers full sun. This perennial will do well in wet soil to standing water and is excellent for erosion control during habitat reconstruction.
Waterbirds find this useful for nesting cover.
How To Plant Great/Soft-stemmed Bulrush Seeds:
Direct sow seeds into prepared soil in late fall once soil temps are below 50 degrees (usually mid to late November). Can also be planted in winter during natural freeze / thaw cycles and in early spring. Plant shallow, no deeper than 1/8 to 1/4 inch deep and lightly rake to work seed in. Plant in full sun. Can take 3 growing seasons to fully establish.
