Indian Grass is a native perennial warm season bunch grass. It is one of the main constituents of the tall grass prairie, typically growing from 3 to 6 feet in height.
It is an excellent erosion control species due to a deep fibrous root system and is perfect for your native material landscape.
It prefers mesic soils and full sun.
Tall grasses like Indian Grass, Big Bluestem and Switch Grass look spectacular in mid to late summer and in to early fall. Check out our Warm Season Tall Grass Native Seed Mix to get the look in your landscape.
How To Plant Indian Grass Seeds:
Direct sow seeds into prepared soil in late fall once soil temps are below 50 degrees (usually mid to late November). Can also be planted in winter during natural freeze/thaw cycles and in early spring. Plant shallow, no deeper than 1/8 to 1/4 inch deep and lightly rake to work seed in. Plant in full sun. Can take 3 growing seasons to fully establish.
