Look at any prairie planting and you will find that grasses make up 60-70% of their composition. Native grasses add beauty, structure and provide habitat to wildlife.

Once established, native grasses are low maintenance and provide an alternative to traditional turf. Short growing native grasses typically reach heights of 3 to 5 feet and tall native grasses usually reach heights of 5 to 7 feet.

Our product selection contains both warm and cool season grasses that can tolerate varying levels of moisture.

Agrostis perennans - Autumn Bentgrass
This native perennial grass flowers during the latter part of the growing season.
Andropogon gerardii - Big Bluestem
A mainstay of the prairies, this warm season grass grows to reach 7 feet in the right conditions. Also called "Turkey Foot" based on the shape of the seed heads. Beautiful red, purple, blue and green hues in the fall.
Andropogon virginicus - Broom Sedge
Closely related to Big and Lttle Bluestem, this native grass is great for erosion control. Has a messy, fluffy seed but produces a really cool plant!

Leersia oryzoides - Rice Cut Grass
This wetland species is valuable for wildlife, especially waterfowl and small mammals. Great for erosion control in swales and other watercourses.
Panicum (Dichanthelium) clandestinum - Deer-tongue Grass

Poa palustris - Fowl Bluegrass
Commonly found in wetlands, it's a favorite for waterfowl to feed on.
Schizachyrium scoparium - Little Bluestem

Scirpus cyperinus - Woolgrass
Woolgrass is an important wetland species providing food and cover for waterfowl and other wildlife.
